My heart aches at all the angry speech from all different perspectives I've seen in the past few days since the #SCOTUS decision in Obergefell v Hodges was handed down. I've read bitter rhetoric from friends who I truly believe desire to show and receive tolerance, from those who agree with the decision and those who disagree.
My response is #40daysoflovewins. The idea came to while I prayed for inspiration on how to stand for my values when responding to the court decision and to my friends' anger or rudeness. Our legislation is driven by values, and I hope to advance my values as I interact with others regarding this historic court case, the primary of which is the need for kindness.
One phrase I have seen shared frequently is "We don't have to agree on anything to be kind to each other." I wholeheartedly agree with this, and I felt called to do more than just post that statement. I desire to actually BE kind, to act in ways that fill the hearts of my fellow humans with a sense of love and acceptance.
So please, join me in this. Share your perspectives and experiences of love. I hope to create a space where we are willing to be with others in their joy and pain.
